F.A.Q.

What are the hours?

Due to the pandemic we are open by appointment only. Please contact us at 608-525-2300 to arrange an appointment. We appreciate your support during this difficult time.

Do you take any kind of animal?

TCHS does not receive any county funding. We are a non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization. Due to this status and our limited capacity we only accept cats and dogs. Please note that we do have intake criteria that each animal must meet as well.

How do I report a lost / missing animal?

We understand the stress and anxiety involved when a beloved pet is missing from home. We strive to offer as many resources as possible to assist in locating your missing family member.

We suggest filing a lost animal report with area humane societies. You should also contact the Sheriff’s department and/or your local law enforcement officers to file a missing animal report. In addition social media can be instrumental in quickly spreading the word along with a photo to help bring your beloved pet home more quickly.

How do I report a stray/found dog or cat?

Please provide your name, phone number, breed if known, and as detailed of a description as possible to provide the best chance of reuniting the animals with their family.

Dog:

TCHS contracts with local municipalities for collecting stray dogs. The Trempealeau County website lists the contact information for each municipality. In most cases, you will contact your local municipality office or chairperson and alert them to the stray dog. Alternately you can contact the Sheriff’s Department at 715-538-4351 to report the stray dog.

Cat:

Please call TCHS at 608-525-2300 to report a stray cat. We have an intake system for accepting stray cats and while we strive to accept as many stray cats as possible we don’t always have the room to accommodate every stray cat at our shelter so you may be placed on a waiting list.

How do I volunteer?

First of all, thank you so much for your consideration of volunteering. We are a non-profit, volunteer based organization and we wouldn’t be able to keep the doors open to help our cats and dogs find their families without our amazing volunteers! We have many volunteer opportunities ranging from kennel assistant to cat cuddler to dog walker to manning tables at our fundraising events. If you’re interested to see what is available and to learn more please email us at shelter@tchspets.org to request an application and tell us areas where you would like to help.

What about community service hours?

We have many volunteer areas that accomodate community service hour needs. While we strive to meet the weekly service requirements, we may not be able to provide more than 10-15 hours a week of community service opportunities to a single person and we do ask that you be flexible in your schedule to match the needs of the shelter. If you’re interested to see what is available and to learn more please email us at shelter@tchspets.org to request an application.

I’d love to donate some items; do you have a list of what is needed the most?

Yes! Please check out our Amazon Wish List and, if possible, order through Amazon Smiles where you can select us as the charity you support. It’s a win-win with receipt of both a much needed item and Amazon donating a percentage of your purchases to TCHS without any additional cost to you!!
